Sara has created an excellent portfolio with extraordinary depth that accentuates her drawing ability, technical mastery of printmaking and her love of nature.
Each piece is presented as a limited edition of signed and numbered hand-pulled prints. The editions are extremely small, under 40 with most being about 20, and are printed with the utmost care to ensure durability. Archival papers and fade resistant ink are used exclusively so that the image will be permanent.
Sara’s favorite form of printmaking is Intaglio, meaning “below the surface”. She concentrates on etchings, which are made by making lines, dots and textures in the surface of a metal plate. These “holes” are created by a chemical reaction that takes a small amount of the plate away or by scratching into the plate. To print the image, the ink is forced into the lines, the excess is removed or “wiped” away, and then the paper, dampened to make it more flexible and accepting to ink, is pushed down into the lines using a press. The resulting print has a great amount of detail and delicacy, like the piece
